Douglas Coupland x Vancouver Aquarium: Plastics (VFX Simulations)
I was asked by Vancouver-Artist Douglas Coupland to come up with some interesting exploding plastic 3D animations involving water, to tie in with his new 2018 exhibit "VORTEX" at the Vancouver Aquarium.
The purpose of these animations was to show on the big screen in the atrium of the Vancouver Aquarium, something which would take place at various times throughout the year.
I did these simulations in Houdini (my first toe dip into the alluring waters), with assistance from Cinema 4D & Octane Render.
A great experimental learning process. Getting the water to mesh nicely without flickering was a challenge to overcome. I also tried other simulation techniques such as crumpling and squashing of plastic.
